In the place where I was born, in Manila, Philippines, miracles seem to be a common occurrence. Since I was a young boy, I was already exposed to such supernatural phenomena...and up until now, I'm still amazed as I listen to testimonials of people on how God touched them, or even simply hearing great stories of God's supernatural power in people's lives.
But then again, there are those that are caused by a truly divine intervention, and there are those that are fake or counterfeit. I do not wish to dwell on this topic. But it should be a word of caution to everyone to be extra discerning- for Satan and his cohorts do everything to deceive us. This is what I learned when I got older, and I say, wiser.
One thing is sure: Jesus, the Son of God, is a real miracle worker. Here is a real story written in John 9:9-11 of the New Testament Bible:
“Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which
in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five
covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used
to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had
been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying
there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time,
he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
"Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the
pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone
else goes down ahead of me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the
Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the
Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”
But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick
up your mat and walk.’ ”
So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it
up and walk?”
The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus
had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See,
you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen
to you.” The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it
was Jesus who had made him well.
As a present-day follower of Jesus and an avid believer of His many miracles, I had this great privilege to visit Israel along with my wife, Elaine, 10 years ago. Having this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit near the pool of Bethesda, and to actually listen afresh to this beautiful miracle story of the disabled man who was desperately waiting for a miracle in his life, gave me goose bumps. My excitement, as well as those others in our tour team, caused us to sing praises to God and thanked Him for His continuing compassion and working of miracles to those who believe in Him and His Son, Jesus.
Personally, I experienced God's healing power from cirrhosis of the liver and its other complications in my body. I didn't have to resort to "faith healing" or to see a nearby "quack doctor" that abounds in our country. I just needed to pray to Jesus and ask Him to heal me. And He was merciful to me by granting my heart’s desire. Because of this, the healing that He brought into my life will always be part of my life story and my testimony of who Jesus is to me.
Luke 1:37 says it clearly, "To God nothing is impossible." He rules both the natural and supernatural realms, and there is nothing too hard for Him to do. Another important truth is that, “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) This means, that, if He healed many people from leprosy, blindness, paralysis and various kinds of diseases during His earthy ministry...and even bringing a dead person to life again – there is no doubt that He can do it again for you and me, according to His purpose and will!
The big question here is: Do you believe Him? Or, will you be willing to believe that He can do a miracle in your life today? Do you see yourself in that disabled man who desperately waited for many years at the pool of Bethesda believing that he could be healed?
Make up your mind. Take a step of faith. Try Jesus to do the impossible in your life. Pick up your mat and walk! And when you do, tell us your amazing story, too.
